Lots of stem cells…

Filed under: Rage against the world — 曹 tsao @ 10:11 pm

…without kill humans. Scientifics of the Genomics Research Center (GRS) in Taiwan discovered stem cells in the lungs. They saw these cells were the main target of the SARS, and they got cells culture in vitro.
I have several ideas about the cause of why there are important interests at West in use embryos in the experiments, and no one is scientific:

  • Scientists consider themselves gods
  • The use of human embryos are cheap, and solve the problem of surplus of in vitro fertilization to governments
  • There are still lots of disciples of Mengele

Under Moncloa

I think the nuclear yard that Spanish government is planning must be under Moncloa (the President Palace). And the next nuclear plant under Parliament :-P

It’s alright what ends right

Final course party in Portiño. Long year, hard moments, lack of volunteers, changes.

But we had lots of good moments too, like today. We ate sandwitches and candys, we danced, we played in the square… We usually have three parties in a year, but we had concentrated all in one because difficulties.

Playing in the Portiño

Now, holidays to get energy to the next year :-)

Freire on the Golden Age

There’s an interesting exhibition at Sala Matt in the old Coruña. The photographer Luis Freire exhibit a collection of 37 photos of great artists of jazz: Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald…

You still can visit the exhibition until july, 1st.

Updated, June,30th: in the limit of dates, I could today go to the exhibition. There were really beauty photos, photos that expressed human imperfection, ordinary moments of jazz legends. I can’t say what’s my favorite photo, maybe Dizzy Gillespie sitting in a park taking notes with one hand, and his trumpet in the other; or maybe Hank Jones and Tete Montoliu talking friendly.

The truth in the water fence

Filed under: Rage against the world — 曹 tsao @ 11:46 pm

Spanish Government said there wouldn’t be no more problems: diplomatic operations in the origin countries of inmigrants would ensure the devolution of the inmigrants to there.

Senegal Government was the first in light the red light: inmigrants have been given back handcuffed and deceived saying them they were going to Malaga (South Spain), when the reality they were carrying to Dakar.

Now I read in Solidaridad.net (in Spanish) that Lola Correa, Secretary-General of Cáritas Canarias NGO: “After they are fourty days locked in non decent conditions, inmigrants are handcuffied, gagged, drugged with tranquillizer, and returned to Africa” “They are left at Nuadibu airport, then they are picked up by an animal truck, in which they travel standing up like merchandise, and when they arrive to no man’s land, they are left to their fate. They are not given back to their origin countries!”. These comments support articles published in local newspapers.

These are human rights by our socialist (?!) Government :-P

The BBS experience

Filed under: Free Software, On the road — 曹 tsao @ 2:24 am

It’s exams time. So, it’s time to order CD’s, read half-abandoned books and test new programs and hacks :-D

So I decided to become a point at FicBBS (Faculty of Computer Science’s BBS). I begun some months ago, but I had left in the middle of configuring. To install the software is easy if you use Debian GNU/Linux: binkd (FidoTech TCP/IP mailer) and golded+ (Fido and Usenet mail reader) are official packages, and hpt (FTN message tosser) and fidoconf-runtime are in a Debian-style repository at the husky proyect. Configuration is easy too with the ficbbs point package (if you don’t have mistakes typing like me :-P ), and if you have problems, sysops are kind boys :-) .

The first time I meet BBS’s was in 1990 when I bought my first 16-bit computer (an Amstrad 80286 with, oh! 40 Mb RLL hard disk). The computer come home with a 1200 bps modem as gift, and programs to connect to the Ibertex net (the Spanish shabby Videotex). It seemed wonderful in the beginning, I belong to the Wargames generation. But the bad service, the fussing phone line near electric lines and the strange high bills to my parents pushed me to leave slowly. The University was near, anyway, and Internet access with it.

It seemed with Internet was the end of BBS’s, Fidonet and so on. But when I become a GPUL member I discovered a very active FicBBS. In the final 90’s I connected from my OpenVMS account in my School to the BBS using telnet.

No new generation took over the place of people that left. I missed for some years, the same years that GPUL was near to miss too. But with the rebirth of my lug three years ago, some of us went again into the BBS. Sysops and system changed, so I couldn’t connect by telnet, then I used newsreader (pan).

Newsreader was not enough to me. I like to feel pure sensations. As nobody can connect by phone now, the most pure method I can use is FTN over TCP/IP. And I really enjoy it. Do you think they are obsolete? I say you: BBS’s are the future and they are going to impose on ;-)

Hey, you can write to me to FiCNet 13:348/1.30!
